Cartoon Dave and an Umbilical Brother |
One of these characters is called 'Dave', and is a highly famous stretchy-noisy-bendy-commedian/tv star from the outrageously cool 'Umbilical Brothers' duo (stars of the Upside Down Show), and the other one is Cartoon Dave. (hint: the guy with the cartoon dave shirt may or may not actually be cartoon dave... it could be a trick - you have been warned!) Check out the Umbies at www.umbilicalbrothers.com |

Cartoon Dave and Lachlan |
Cartoon Dave and Lachlan at the Norman Lindsay Festival Of Childrens Literature, 2009. Smile it up, Lachlan!! |
Ashley & Courtney at Castle Hill Library with Cartoon Dave |
Here we have two small humans who came along to scribble with me at Castle Hill Library in 2009. One is called Ashley, and the other goes by the name of Courtney. If you think they look like brilliant cartoonists, please write to them and let them know. |
Cartoon Dave where??? |
Here is Cartoon Dave at the thriving metropolis of Daroolbalgie. If you know where this is, please email Dave and let him know. Once he knows where he is, he'll be able to figure out how to get home again. |
Toasting TV's... it's something I like to do in my spare time |
OK... so here I am with the lovely Kell and the almost lovely Palmer, from 'Toasted TV'. The venue: SeaWorld, Queensland. The weather: a balmy 28 degrees. The funny hairstyle: Who knows what my stylist was thinking... (note to self: get a new stylist!) |
Cartoon Dave... to beard or not to beard |
Here are two versions of Cartoon Dave. One is his 'I'm a total handsome-pot, now will you please take my photo' shot, and the other is his 'I've been on holidays for longer than I can remember, and... wait a minute... how long has this BEARD been here?!!!' shot. See if you can tell the difference. You have three minutes. |
LOOK WHAT I FOUND IN CASE NUMBER SEVEN!! Cartoon Dave meets the suitcase-wielding game show host... |
Some contestants on Deal or No Deal are lucky enough to walk away with a small amount of cash, but all I got was this almost life-like Andrew O'Keefe doll. |
Cartoon Dave with The Saturday Disney Gang, Feb 2007 |
Sally, Shae and Jack got all mung-beans and love when they heard I was coming on to blab about 'UFO in the USA'.
Check out the strands of wool coming out of Jack's head. Dead classy stuff.
Oh, and on a trivial note, the shirt I'm wearing is from a totally groovy shop in Spokane, Washington (USA) called 'Boo Radley's'. Ask your folks or your granny who Boo Radley was. Or don't. Either is fine with me...
Plus - the Saturday Disney gang had the renovation rescue team in to build them a new set. I was the first guest to visit this new and exciting setting. It was a fascinating experience, and to this day I still tell my friends about how the barbecue table we all sat around changed my life. Sat Disney - I salute you! |
CartoonDave and the British pop-girlie |
This gal's name is Tina Cousens, (who was at Bert Newton's pad, the day I visited) and she's totally famous for being a singing-sensation in the UK (and to some degree in Australia, too).
She didn't sing me any songs, but she was quite impressed when I burst into song with an impromtu rendition of Slim Dusty's 'The Pub with no Beer'. It truly was a golden moment. |
Cartoon Dave and Marc McBride |
Dave met up with world famous illustrator of dragons and all things dragon-esque - MARC (or Mark) McBride in May 2007, at the 'Voices on the Coast' writers festival in Moolooloolooloolabah, QLD. You may know him from his drawings in Emily Rodda's 'Deltora Quest' books. Then again you may not. You may not know much at all. Who can tell? |
Cartoon Dave and the 'Brady Bunch' experience... |
This is the legendary cast of the Brady Bunch. Which one do you think is Dave?
(Hint: He's the one in the really dorky shirt). |
Dave Hackett, Dancing with the Brady man... |
Greg Brady, somewhat hopeless at dancing, asked me and a bunch of my pals if we would get together and teach him some slick moves.
Notice Greg's the's the only one not dancing? Like I said... hopeless. |
Cartoon Dave's last stint with the cheeZoids... 2004 |
Jade: "I'm totally unimpressed with my hair-stylist's latest effort..."
Dave: "Yikes! Don't let her near my spectacular hair!"
Ryan: "I like hats. You can hide any hair disaster under a hat." |
Cartoon Dave's first visit to the Saturday Disney pad, 2006. |
You may have noticed that they've swapped a guy since 2006.
The guy in this picture is the old Jack. His name is Dan, so I'm told. (I'm pretty sure it's Dan. If you don't believe me, you can ask him yourself). The new Jack (featured in an entirely different photo on this page) is not only the new Jack, but he's also the new Dan, with the old Dan, not only being the old Jack, but also being the one and only Dan that they ever had hosting the show.
Up to speed now? Great. |
Cartoon Dave and the Texta TV commercial: 2007 |
"Does anybody know what this is? No, it's not a cow..."
Drawing a shark as scary as this one made me quite nervous, and a little blurry...
This is Barry, the shark. He was a hired extra for the day, who was paid more than the kids were. The entertainment industry is a tough, and often unfair business...
Beware of whiteboard elves...
Yay!! After eight hours of filming, we were allowed a toilet break!!! |
Check out the features on these Creatures... |
When was this? Around 2005, and big Nick Hardcastle (from ABC's 'Creature Features) came around to the Cartoon Dave studio to draw a bunch of cats and fish (clearly mine were far superior). And yikes! How big is this photo???
The guy with the camera wasn't invited. He just showed up, lugging a big pile of equipment, so we thought we'd be nice and take his photo. |
Cartoon Dave on the Disney Couch |
Asha, a random child, Dave (looking rather sleepy) and Nathaniel, striking a relaxed pose on the expensive yet stylish blue Disney lounge. |
Cartoon Dave on cheeZ tv... circa 2000 |
Jade, Ryan and myself tried out for the lead roles in the Charlie's Angels movie.
As you can see, we were totally qualified. We busted similar moves to these for about an hour and a half. Soon after that we were signed on to 'Charlie's Angels IV: The Angels are now Blokes'. |
Cartoon Dave's stunning picture of Bert |
I drew this pic of the highly famous and suave Bert while I was there.
Trivia spot: Bert had a new lounge for Good Morning Australia, and I was the first guest to sit on it! Yee-ha! |
Cartoon Dave hangin' with Big Bert Newton on Good Morning Australia, APRIL 1998 |
Dave and Bert: 1998
Even when Bert started to get all growly and began to swish his claws in my direction, I was unpeturbed - constantly drawing as the cameras captured every second of the dangerous footage... |
Cartoon Dave's nasty, yet attractive Alien pen-holder |
A stunning example of what can be acheived with the right tools, and a whole lot of know-how.
Martha Stewart would be proud. |
Get Crafty: CartoonDave's Crafty side emerges... |
The much replayed 'Get Crafty' segments were written, researched, and scripted by me. The logo and big crazy animals were mine, too.
All the craft, I tried out first in my study at home. Most of it was a huge success (the green alien pen holder, however, was not. His eyes fell off, as did his arm, Poor soul. Check out the end result below. Frightening stuff! Children the country over were left holding their half-finished alien pen-holders saying "Are you kidding??" |
Cartoon Dave standing at a funny angle on Disney Channel |
Dave on Disney Channel, 2005.
The striking red shirt goes well with the Christmassy theme, don't you think?. (and by the way, what's with that hair???)
The characters around the board, I made myself out of big chunky cardboard, and without fail, every shoot atleast one of them would fall off. There were a few segments over the years that went to air, with me having to yell out "yikes! A falling elephant!", and one where I yelled out "There's a whiteboard marker wedged into my ear!!", but that was a whole different incident. |
Greg, Greg, Greg. |
.jpg) |
This is a picture of CartoonDave with his great, great uncle... no wait - it's the real Greg Brady (ask your folks).
Greg had been following Dave around for weeks, begging for an autograph, so Dave kindly invited him into his home for a biscuit and a hot cup of cocoa |
